The largest sporting event in the world is coming to Stratford, East London in the summer of 2012 - the Olympic Games, commencing on 12th August, and the Paralympic Games commencing on 29th August.
For Southend, located only around 35 miles / an hour's journey away from the Olympic Park, this presents exciting opportunities. Creating Leisure and Southend Borough Council is working with partners to deliver a legacy from the Games. The Council is a member of the Essex 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Legacy Partnership that was created and is now led by Essex County Council, and has representation on the Essex Strategic Board for a legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Partnership is supported by a range of organisations across the public, private and voluntary sectors. In Southend, local representatives from the Olympic Scoping Group that meet approximately every six weeks, discuss and agree actions that will contribute towards an Olympic legacy for the town.
